Post 9: Changes to my study programme

Over the years that I've been studying sociology, I have always been questioning the program and the curriculum of my career. Even, I was a participant in the process of renovation of the curriculum and graduation profile of Sociology at the Universidad de Chile. The process took about 4 years, where students and academics talked about things that should be improved in the career.

The students come to the conclusion that from the first year they should have their own subjects of sociology, and not have own subjects of psychology. Another demanded change, was to change methodological subject, in order to favor the creation of research design and qualitative techniques, and removing the preponderance of quantitative techniques, leaving the student's free choice the specialization in this area. In addition, we was concluded that the time of graduation of career must be shorted, because the majority of students graduate in the fifth year and are titled to the sixth or seventh. Therefore, we was decided to come early to fourth year the grade seminar.

In relation to infrastructure and technology, historically FACSO students have had precarious implements, but thanks to bicentennial project, a new building was build to FACSO in 2016, and also modern classrooms were built  for entire Juan Gomez Millas campus. Also, the computer rooms were updated.

Finally, I must mention that with the passage of time, teachers have been changing their ways of interacting with students, because their teaching methods were sometimes arbitrary and authoritarian. But the teachears have been improving and learning many things, as much as the students.

  3. New ways of teaching are needed, and it's great to see that some teachers are really trying to innovate.
